Tragedy in Guadalajara: 23-Year-Old Influencer Shot Dead While Livestreaming on TikTok

Trending USA News

In a deeply disturbing incident that has shocked both Mexico and the global online community, a young social media influencer was shot and killed during a live broadcast on TikTok.

Valeria Marquez, a 23-year-old influencer from Guadalajara, Jalisco, was reportedly livestreaming from her beauty salon in the Zapopan suburb when a man entered the premises and opened fire, fatally wounding her.

According to a statement from the Jalisco State Prosecutor's Office, the attacker approached under the guise of delivering a gift. Moments before the attack, Valeria was seen in her livestream calmly seated, holding a stuffed animal—completely unaware of the tragedy about to unfold.

Seconds later, gunshots were heard, and the screen abruptly went black when another person at the scene picked up the phone to stop the live video.

Ongoing Investigation: A Possible Femicide
Authorities have not released the name of a suspect, and the motive remains unclear. However, the case is being investigated as a femicide—a term used in Mexico to denote the killing of women due to gender-based violence.

Femicide is an alarmingly common crime in Mexico, where the United Nations estimates that 10 women or girls are killed every day, often by partners or relatives. This tragic statistic reflects a broader crisis of violence against women in the country.

Despite Valeria’s rising popularity—with a combined following of nearly 200,000 fans on TikTok and Instagram—officials say there were no prior records of her reporting threats or seeking protection from authorities.

Public Reaction and Official Response
Fans and fellow content creators have expressed shock and grief over Valeria’s violent death, calling for justice and stronger protection for women in the public eye.

Zapopan Mayor Juan José Frangie commented that his office had received no previous alerts or complaints from Valeria regarding personal threats. “A femicide is the worst thing,” he stated, underlining the gravity of the situation.

Forensic teams are currently working on the case, examining evidence from the crime scene to identify and apprehend the perpetrator.
